With endless breathtaking views, accessible year-round routes, and a wide diversity of terrain from smooth to technical, you’re guaranteed to find a gravel route that checks all the right boxes on your wishlist.

Then there’s the cream of the crop, the one bikeway to rule them all, the Cascades Gravel Scenic Bikeway. In fact, it’s the only one of its kind in Oregon. This five-star gravel ride showcases spectacular scenery and varied terrain and routes that will get your legs pedaling and your mind exploring.

Bend & Central Oregon

Gravel Adventure Field Guide

Bend is an amazing gravel bike destination not only because of the thousands of miles of unpaved roads in its vicinity. With geologically sculpted terrain, river views, and blue skies, this high desert destination is raw and rugged while being the cultural heart of Central Oregon. Embracing the spirit of adventure comes naturally when traveling through on a bicycle.

The Bend Gravel Adventure Field Guide is designed to help you decipher and navigate the network of roads and trails in and around Bend and Central Oregon. Consider it your roadmap to finding the best gravel routes in the area. Pick up a free copy at the Bend Visitor Center or at any bike shop in Bend.

UPDATE: Skyline Forest is now closed to public access, indefinitely. This closure effects a number of gravel routes included in the Bend Gravel Adventure Field Guide, including Railbed Spurs and The Bishop. Skyline Forest, privately owned property that historically has been open for public use, has always been an important place for our community, but now there is renewed urgency to protect this place once and for all.

The Cascades Gravel Scenic Bikeway

Oregon's first (and only?)

The Cascades Gravel Scenic Bikeway is Oregon’s first (and only) scenic gravel bikeway program, giving gravel riders varied routes spanning every category and skill level. If the riding itself wasn’t impressive enough, stellar waterfall, river, and mountain views await you as well as peaceful rides through serene forests and open high desert landscape. This scenic bikeway seriously has it all!

The Cascades Gravel Scenic Bikeway consists of six different routes, ranging from shorter and flatter beginner-level rides to more technical and longer gravel and mixed-surface rides. To make this possible, Visit Bend has partnered up with Dirty Freehub, the experts on gravel riding in the Bend and Central Oregon region, to provide maps, cue sheets, and ride descriptions for you to explore some of the area’s less-traveled roads and trails by bike. While singletrack trails in Deschutes National Forest are non-motorized and do not permit e-bikes, gravel routes that do not utilize singletrack are e-bike-friendly.

Interested in gravel racing? The Cascade Gravel Grinder and Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder events both offer more challenging and scenic courses in Central Oregon, giving you the best gravel riding experience in the region.
