Shevlin Park is a haven located less than three miles from Bend that offers an extensive trail system for hiking, running, biking, and nature watching. When the snow falls, bust out your cross country skis and snowshoes. The park is also the site of Cougar Camp, a popular youth day camp offered by the Bend Parks and Recreation District in the summer months. Although the nearly 1,000-acre park has a paved road, three developed picnic sites, a casting pond for youth, and Aspen Hall within its boundaries, most of the park remains undeveloped.
Tumalo Creek babbles through the park with several foot bridges providing opportunities to cross over to the eastern section of the park, the Shevlin Conservation Easement. The easement features a parking area with a viewpoint and is popular with hikers, runners and mountain bikers. Shevlin park closes at dusk, so make sure to schedule your outdoor fun during daylight hours.
Shevlin is the perfect place for an afternoon run through the forest or a morning dog walk — leashes required. The whole family can enjoy a delightful mountain bike ride on the gentle trails. Shevlin is a popular place year round because of its natural beauty, easy access, and wide variety of activities.
Big winter snow storms can cover Shevlin in the fluffy stuff making it an easily accessible playground for nordic skiers and snowshoers, with relatively flat ungroomed terrain. And if there isn’t snow, Shevlin Park is a great place to go for a run, take the dog for a walk, or go on a crisp winter hike.
