8 ways to get your Bend fix without leaving home

Love list 1600

By now you’re wondering how long you can wear the same sweatpants without showering, and you’ve realized your only taste of wildlife is staring out the window as the deer eat your spring bulbs.

But doing your part to flatten the curve by staying home doesn’t mean you must do without daily doses of Bend inspiration. Here are 8 ways you can stay connected to Bend even from the comfort of your home.

Build your own Bend Love List from the comfort of your home, with or without feline supervision.

Soak up the social media

Tired of seeing your social media streams filled with Coronavirus headlines and quizzes to find out what kind of potato you are? Make sure you’re dialed in to all of Visit Bend’s channels to round out your feed with inspiring images and hope for future outdoor adventure.

We’re most active on Facebook and Instagram, though you’ll also get your daily dose of Bend on Pinterest and Twitter. Our website has tons of cool trip planning features, including a love list you can populate with everything you want to see and do once it’s safe to travel again. You can even take The Bend Pledge to solidify your vow to leave things better than you found them.

Want a taste of the wild outdoors beyond Bend’s border? Keep your eyes on the Golden Eagle Webcam to watch nesting birds doing their thing near Whychus Creek outside Sisters. You can also scan the Crater Lake Webcam for glimpses at one of Central Oregon’s most famous treasures.

Dance like no one’s watching (because they’re not)

While we’re no longer able to hit our favorite stops on the Bend Ale Trail to groove to our favorite local musicians, a number of them are stepping up to the mic with livestreams from their living rooms.

A pillar of Bend’s music scene, KC Flynn performs live from his living room for the enjoyment of Facebook fans everywhere.

Longtime local favorite KC Flynn has been doing live Wine Down Wednesday concerts from his home, and you can find the feed on his Facebook page.

While the Tower Theatre has been hard at work rescheduling its spring concerts, you can still get your music fix by checking out Jive Radio’s live daily gig report at 11:45, which is sponsored by both the Tower and the Source Weekly.

Also, keep your eyes glued to bendconcerts.com for updates on the summer shows scheduled at Les Schwab Amphitheater. While it’s true we’ve already seen a cancellation or two, we’re all holding out hope that later shows can still happen as scheduled.

Get your fitness fix

Larger fitness chains with Bend locations are offering ample opportunities for online workouts. Check out the YouTube channel for Orange Theory Fitness or the daily workouts on Facebook Live from Planet Fitness.

Need to get your yoga fix? Namaspa, Free Spirit, and Groove Yoga are just a handful of Bend studios offering live streaming and recorded content for housebound yogis.

If indoor cycling is your jam, CycleBar in the Old Mill District is offering its members 60 free days of their new CycleBar GO, along with free access to the streaming versions of Club Pilates, Pure Barre, Row House, StretchLab, Yoga 6, AKT, and Stride.

Save your fave (restaurant, that is)

With restaurants around the state closed for in-house dining, local eateries are clinging to takeout orders for hope of surviving this major economic downturn. Want to make sure your favorite Bend restaurant is still around when the dust settles? Consider ordering gift certificates to deliver a much-needed infusion of cash.

Yummy Cannelloni in Forno offered by Trattoria Sbandati for takeout.

Better yet, order takeout or delivery to score some immediate grub and give yourself a break from cooking all those beans you panic-purchased. The Visit Bend website offers an awesome list of who’s offering takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup through the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve already placed my order for date night eats from Trattoria Sbandati, and I’ve gotta admit, it’s gotten me through the week dreaming about housemade tagliatelle pasta and tiramisu.

Stay looking spiffy

Bend’s day spas and hair and beauty salons are having an especially tough time right now, since there’s no way to offer hair, nails, or massage while maintaining a six-foot buffer between humans. If you’ve got a favorite spot you’re hoping survives this closure, consider grabbing a gift certificate as a show of support.

Clean beauty experts Wren and Wild are still offering a wide variety of goods in their online shop to help you stay stocked on all your favorite skincare and natural makeup. Ditto that for Angelina Organic Skincare, which has temporarily closed its spa and retail store, but still has an awesome online shop to hook you up with luscious beauty essentials.

With some help from a video tutorial from Bend’s Salon Estilo, you can learn to trim your own bangs to get you through ’til your next appointment.

Ready to tackle a little do-it-yourself beauty project? Salon Estilo in the Old Mill District created this fun video showing you how to trim your own bangs.

Craving caffeine?

Bend-based Bellatazza Café is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and they made the tough call last week to close even for takeout orders. But if you want a taste of their amazing coffees from around the globe, check out their online shop for a wide variety of beans and blends. You can even score one of their custom tin or porcelain mugs.

Local favorite Lone Pine Coffee is still hanging in there with takeout coffee, pastries, and beans offered during their regular business hours. It’s a good chance to get a glimpse of their new space while sucking in some coffee-fragranced fumes.

Order your favorite Bellatazza goodies online.

If you’d like a burst of feel-good energy with your caffeine rush, Riff Cold Brewed has a new “get one, give one” program ensuring that for each purchase of bottled Riff Cold Brewed Coffee or can of Alter Ego, Riff will match the purchase and donate a bottle to front-line healthcare workers on the consumer’s behalf. Take a break from the same ol’ Netflix

Need something to shake up your routine with the standard streaming services? The Deschutes Library has always been a great resource for electronic content ranging from eBooks to audiobooks to streaming. With the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, they’ve stepped up their game to offer even more of it, plus live-streamed events and even a kids’ storytime on their YouTube channel. Learn more here.

The folks at BendFilm have curated a list of uplifting films that have played either at Tin Pan Theater or BendFilm events over the years. Check out the BendFilm Pharmacy to stream titles from home. When you’re done, spread the love by finding the filmmakers’ social media pages to leave a comment so they know you’re watching.

Blogger Tawna enjoys one of Jon Paul Crimi’s breathing workshops at home with her family.

Bend’s Tin Pan Theater also has a roundup of films playing virtually online. All can be viewed from your web browser, and most can be viewed via Apple TV, Google Chromecast, or Roku. Review the individual films and their prices here.

Just breathe…

For years I’ve heard pals gush about the breathwork classes offered regularly in Bend by Jon Paul Crimi. I’d finally, finally registered for one last month and was all set to go when Coronavirus forced a last-minute cancellation of the Bend event. I was bummed. Then cautiously optimistic when he announced a live, online class to be held that Sunday morning.

Guys—this was awesome. Best of all, my whole family got to try from the comfort of our living room and for a fraction of the cost we’d have paid for the live one. Check out his Facebook page for more upcoming events, then open your mind to the idea that sometimes the online option comes with an unexpected set of perks.
