6 ways to go big in Bend

Snowcamping 1600

There’s a time for budget-friendly travel and there’s a time for splurging.

You’ll find plenty of both in Bend, ranging from discounted lodging and activities to bucket-list indulgences when you feel the urge to splurge.

If the latter is on your horizon this winter, here are six ways to treat yo’self on a Bend vacation.

Look sharp in a luxury car

Sure, you can cruise around Bend in a standard sedan, and no one will think less of you.

But if you’re craving some extra-special wheels, Enterprise offers several options for luxury car rentals in Bend, including Range Rovers, BMWs, Mustangs, and a few kinds of convertibles.

Cruise in style, whether you’re renting a luxury car or flying with Big Mountain Heli.

Scope out their website or give them a call to learn what’s available.

Up, up and away

Now that you’re settled in that sweet ride, it’s time to see Bend from another angle.

Big Mountain Heli Tours offers private, scenic helicopter tours year-round for up to three guests. This is your chance to scope out Bend’s wild and scenic places from 10,000 feet above. Soak up epic vistas before capping off your adventure with complimentary wine tasting and a free bottle of wine at Va Piano Vineyards in the Old Mill District (included with most tours).

Tour offerings range from their Cascade Mountains Ring of Fire adventure, to their quirky Bigfoot and Sasquatch tour. Learn more here.

The ultimate dinner date

Pay attention, foodies, because this one will fill fast.

You won’t want to miss the James Beard dinner at 5 Fusion on February 4!

On February 4, 2019, 5 Fusion and Sushi Bar is hosting a James Beard Foundation benefit dinner to raise funds for the JBF Impact Program. Funds go toward establishing a more sustainable food system through education and advocacy, and Chef Joe Kim will be preparing the ultimate meal to remember.

Yes, the Joe Kim. One of the only Oregon chefs east of the Cascades to be a James Beard finalist (an honor he’s achieved three times and counting). His menu will blend cuisines of Korea, Japan, China, and India and meld them with those of Brittain, France, Russia, and Mexico.

You can scope out the full eight-course menu here (be prepared to drool). The price for everything is $150 a person, with an additional $30 if you’d like to add wine pairings. The restaurant will be only open for this dinner on February 4, so guests can reserve a time that works best for them, rather than having a single seating time.

For reservations, call 541-323-2328. Don’t delay on this one, as there’s a super high demand and limited space.

Pamper yourself

Bend boasts a host of amazing day spas, with many of them offering special packages to give you the ultimate ticket to bliss.

Treat yourself to a spa date in Bend.

Spa W has a package dubbed “Wrapsody” which includes all Spa W signature treatments rolled into one for the ultimate day of decadence. It includes steam, Honey Salt Glow, a 90-minute massage, the Lux Facial, a Spa W Posh Pedicure, and a delicious spa lunch. Plan on at least 5 hours for this one, and know your $420 will be soooo worth it.

Jinsei Spa also boasts a number of super-luxe packages, including one specially tailored for couples. For $305, you get side-by-side hot stone massages for an hour and 10 minutes, followed by two Lavender Eucalyptus Pedicures, all while enjoying sake or prosecco and chocolate.

Have the ultimate adventure with Wanderlust Tours

Got a thirst for big adventure and a budget to make it happen?

Snooze in your own snow cave with Wanderlust Tours.

In addition to their huge array of more pocketbook-friendly summer and winter outings, Wanderlust Tours offers private adventures for groups looking to experience something a bit beyond the standard fare.

One of their most epic adventures at the moment is their Snow Camp Weekend (which is currently offered in partnership with Brasada Ranch, but you can do it even if you’re not a guest there).

The snow camping adventure begins in the morning when guests are picked up and taken into the mountains. All you need is the clothing on your back, as all gear and essentials are provided.

Guests will snowshoe in to the site where they’ll be taught how to build a snow cave. Wanderlust guides will build a kitchen and dining area in the snow, and then treat adventurers to an epic feast under the stars, complete with adult libations.

Enjoy breakfast in the snow on your overnight adventure with Wanderlust.

After dinner and drinks, you’ll retire to your snow cave for the night and cozy up in a cold weather sleeping bag provided by Wanderlust. In the morning you’ll wake to the otherworldly azure glow of sunlight streaming through the cave roof. Breakfast is provided before guests snowshoe back to the starting point for the drive back to Bend.

The snow camping experience starts at $600 for everything I just described. The price goes up if you tack on lodging at Brasada, or can go down a bit if you have your own zero-degree sleeping bag and other gear.

For more info, give Wanderlust a call at 541-389-8359.
