How to celebrate a milestone birthday in Bend (including Mt. Bachelor’s 60th!)

Winter Fun on Mt. Bachelor in Bend Oregon

Some birthdays are a bigger deal than others.

Maybe it’s a sweet-sixteen you’re eager to make extra-special, or perhaps there’s a golden anniversary looming for someone in the family.

Or maybe—and this seems most likely—you’re gung ho to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Bend’s iconic ski hill, Mt. Bachelor. That’s happening on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 and Bachelor had gobs of good stuff planned to mark the milestone.

Besides that, restaurants and hotels around Bend have plenty of Bachelor-centric ways to get festive no matter what you’re celebrating.

Party planning Mt. Bachelor style

First things first—let’s talk about Mt. Bachelor’s big bash.

Mt Bachelor in Bend, OR

On Dec. 19, 2018, you can celebrate the big six-oh at Mt. Bachelor by skiing or snowboarding for 1958 prices.

On December 19, 2018, Mt. Bachelor will do a hat-tip to prices from 1958 by offering $3 lift tickets to ride the oldest lift on the mountain, Red Chair. All Red Chair ticket proceeds will be donated to Protect Our Winters, and purchasers will be entered to win tons of great raffle prizes.

You’ll also see some special 1958 food and beverage prices in the West Village Lodge and the Clearing Rock Bar, plus there’s a champagne toast and birthday cake at 3 p.m.

You’ll find other items on the agenda, including 10 Barrel beer tasting as well as free commemorative 60th anniversary Yeti Mugs for the first 100 people in the Red Chair lift line that morning.

Want to keep the party going longer, or celebrate a milestone birthday beyond Mt. Bachelor’s big day? Plenty of Bend hotspots make ideal places for birthday parties of all kinds. Kiddos in particular will love the offerings at Mountain Air Trampoline Park and Trampoline Zone, while grownups might enjoy an outing along the Bend Ale Trail or a commemorative moonlight snowshoe outing with Wanderlust Tours.

Whatever you do, be sure to raise a toast to Mt. Bachelor.

Bachelor party in your belly

Want to honor Mt. Bachelor’s birthday (or any other occasion) by embarking on a Bachelor-themed culinary tour of Bend?

Start your day at Lemon Tree by ordering the Mt. Bachelor Breakfast Sammy. It’s a super-sized English muffin filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, and creamy Havarti. You can substitute duck bacon if you like.

If an omelet is more your style, head to McKay Cottage and order the Mt. Bachelor. It’s filled with applewood smoked bacon, organic guacamole, and jack cheese, then topped with sour cream. Yum!

Lunchtime already? Head for Bend Burger Company and order the Bachelor Brat Burger. It’s regular ground beef mixed with German sausage, swiss cheese, bacon, sauerkraut, grilled onions, and Bend Burger sauce, served with hand cut French fries.

If sushi is more your scene, head for Shinsei and order the Mt. Bachelor Roll from their premium menu. It’s made with real crab, avocado, and cucumber, then topped with fresh tuna, fresh salmon, and unagi sauce.

Got pizza on your belly’s wish list? Head to BPK (that’s local-speak for Bend Pizza Kitchen) in Northwest Crossing. Their Mt. Bachelor pie features garlic olive oil sauce, mozzarella, fresh spinach, caramelized onions, sun-dried tomatoes, chevre, and roasted walnuts, topped with fresh arugula and balsamic reduction.

Don’t forget the beverages, by the way. Deschutes Brewery boasts several brews that honor everyone’s favorite ski hill, including Bachelor Bitter and Red Chair Ale (not to mention Chasin’ Freshies IPA). Bottoms up!
