King and Queen of the Cone

Skiing Bend Oregon

Spring weather, good friends, and a benefit for the Central Oregon Environmental Center, the King and Queen of the Cone is quickly becoming an iconic Bend event.

Skin to Win.  Put your aerobic threshold and downhill speed to the test by competing in the second annual King and Queen of the Cone.  An Uphill / Downhill Race; competitors leave the Mt. Bachelor parking lot at 9:30am on Saturday, May 2nd and hike 4000 vertical feet on telemark, alpine touring or splitboard setups before ripping off the climbing skins and shredding down the mountain.  This year’s event will also include a recreational division challenging participants with a 2000ft climb.

Drawing athletes from not only Central Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, this randonee race brings avid backcountry enthusiasts from around the country.  Whether you racing to win or just out to enjoy the spring snow conditions and views of the Three Sisters, Broken Top and the Cascade Mountains; be sure to sport a helmet and, if you are feeling really crazy, a costume.
